Mzokuthula Gasa

Award-winning dancer and choreographer Mzokuthula Gasa is Artistic Director of Sibonelo Dance Project and a passionate dance teacher. He began his career in Durban with Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre, under Jay Pather, after which he performed and choreographed for numerous international dance companies. On his return to South Africa from England, Mzokuthula founded his own dance project in Cape Town. Recently, he was a resident choreographer and company teacher for Jazzart Dance Theatre, choreographing amongst others Biko’s Quest, Destination Lerato, and 69185 for Azishe. He also teaches dance for the Western Cape Education Department.

Sibonelo Dance Project produces contemporary work that blends modern and traditional dance techniques. The company is based in Cape Town and trains young adults and youth from disadvantaged communities. Sibonelo presented Going Places and Ubunye at Infecting The City 2014.
