Wojciech Gilewicz

Wojciech Gilewicz is a painter, photographer, performer and author of videos and installations.

His art provokes reflection on the mechanisms which govern perception and its cultural conditioning, actively collaborating with viewers and involving them both in his projects and the polemics about myths and stereotypes concerning art, its reception and interpretation. Through filmed performances, he takes on board issues related to the role of painting, as well as the status of the artist and artistic practice in the context of the institution, the art system and society at large.

Wojciech lives and works between New York and Warsaw, and is the recipient of the 2014 Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. His recent solo shows include Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan (2013), Zacheta National Gallery of Art Project Room, Warsaw, Poland (2013) and Manggha Museum of Japanese Art, Krakow, Poland (2012).
