Asemahle Ntlonti, with Chuma Sopotela, Mfundo Zono

Sculptor Asemahle Ntlonti (right) graduated from the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2017.  As a student she was awarded the Barbara Fairhead Award for Social Responsibility in 2014 and the Hoosein Mahomed Award for Excellence in 2015. In the same year she reached the final stage in the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition and one year later, the top 10 finalists in the Barclays L’Atelier Award. Following the completion of her studies she won the Young Female Residence Award at the Project Space Africa.

Asemahle is a member of iQhiya, a collective of 11 black women artists based in Cape Town, Johannesburg, South Africa and Botswana.

For ITC2019 she is joined in performance by Standard Bank Young Artist of the year 2018, Chuma Sopotela (middle) and theatre maker Mfundo Zono (left).
