Kanya Viljoen

Kanya is an Andrew W Mellon scholar, completing her MA in theatre-making at the University of Cape Town. She is a recipient of the South African Theatre Magazine's Best Emerging Director Award and her script, RAAK, was nominated as best festival production and for two Fiësta Kanna awards. Another work, mank, was selected for development by Kunste Onbeperk’s Teksmark and she received a writer’s bursary. Kanya explores and pushes the boundaries of theatre, creating dialogues around language, ideology and identity within a multi-fragmented society.
