All who listen

All who listen

By: Sanjin Muftić with Amy Jephta

A digital sound installation that re-stages Amy Jephta’s 2019 script, All Who Pass, as a geo-specific audio tour. Inspired by recent trends in digital humanities, of intersecting audio-walks with a study of historical events, All Who Listen is set in 1974: an inner-city Cape Town neighbourhood is being forcibly cleared by the apartheid regime and a family spend their last night together in their District Six home. Selected scenes from the play will be scattered as audio files around District Six for the duration of the festival. As the audience connects to the past through an app on their phones, the voices echo in their ears.

1) Make sure your location services are turned on and you have access to WIFI or data

2) Search for “ECHOES interactive sound walks” in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and download the app (or go to echoes.xyz).

3) Launch the app and create a free account (or sign-in via your Facebook or Google accounts)

4) Allow the app to use your location services and you should immediately be able to access All Who Listen (tip: download the full walk while you have WIFI access).

This installation feature the voices of the original cast of All Who Pass (2019), under the direction of Quanita Adams: Elton Landrew, Carmen Maarman, Jawaahier Petersen, Roberto Meyer and Iman Isaacs.
