Asemahle Ntlonti

Asemahle Ntlonti is currently in her 4th year of study at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT, where she majors in sculpture. She was awarded the Hoorein Mahomed Award for excellence in 2015 and the Barbaro Fairhead Award for social responsibility in 2014, and was also a finalist for the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition.

Her work is biographical, and deals with the struggles she faces as a young black woman living in Cape Town. She is also interested in creating work about the violence inflicted upon the black body. Asemahle is currently a member of iQhiya, a network of young black women based in Cape Town and Johannesburg working across disciplines.
