Indoni Dance, Arts and Leadership Academy
Indoni Dance, Arts and Leadership Academy was established to provide value-laden professional training to youth who lack financial support and guidance, and wish to pursue careers in dance and integrated arts. The Academy is currently based at the Masikanye Centre in Gugulethu, expanding higher education opportunities to learners from poor and marginalised communities, and providing access to the skills and knowledge required for employment and economic participation in the arts. Indoni honours the heritage of South Africa, with a contemporary African-centred approach. A vital component of the trainees’ education is the rekindling of hope, and the building of dignity and life skills. The Academy seeks to promote the arts as a channel for economic, personal and professional development.
Sbonakaliso Ndaba is an award-winning dancer and choreographer, and has danced and choreographed for a wide range of South African and international dance companies – including Pheduka Dance Theatre, Jazzart Dance Theatre and Moving into Dance. Her awards include the KwaZulu-Natal Dance Link award for Best Choreographer, the Playhouse Company award for Women in the Arts, the Daimler Chrysler award for South African Choreography and most recently the 2016 Cultural Affairs award for Best Contribution to Performing Arts: Dance.
