In Africa, My Africa spoken word artist Koleka Putuma aims to expose the contradiction of the ‘kumbaya rhetoric’ through a poem (by the same title) that praises the soil and ancestors of ‘Africa’ - a poem that celebrates a democratic South Africa and a Nelson Mandela who made a questionable freedom possible for those still impoverished and oppressed.
