Surfeit
By: John Nankin
One leg is long. One leg is short.
A man attempts to do the ordinary things that people usually do in town. This otherwise normal man has one extremely long leg, and a huge foot.
If passers-by notice this disparity of limb, what do they make of it? Do they assume that it is part of an artwork, a display of some kind, a promotion? Do they scrutinise it for signs of its purpose, for clues as to its meaning? Do some read into this physical performance an allegorical intent?
Is the performance an enactment, preconceived, planned and plotted. Or is it an experiment, research conducted under duress with limited tools and a variety of self-imposed restrictions? Can it be both? And neither?
Prosthetic leg made with assistance of James Mader.
