Coloured Outside the Lines
By: Serge One, Adrian ‘Diff’ Van Wyk and Mak1one
The artwork exists as an exploration and interrogation of the historical meaning behind the term ‘coloured’ in a South African but also, particularly, Cape Town context. Apartheid left many stains including the term and it is with this as a starting point the collaborative trio of graffiti artists and poet, Serge One, Adrian ‘Diff’ Van Wyk and Mak1one, explore its use as an identifier of a diverse group of people. Existing in graffiti art form and spoken word, Coloured Outside the Lines speaks to not only the subject, but to those most affected by the categorisation.
