Pied Piper’s Voyage
By: Lebohang Kganya
Acting as both a homage to her late father’s life and as a way to dissect the shifting roles between men and women in the family unit, Lebohang Kganye’s video installation exists as a performative expression. The artist’s father passed away before her birth and it is in Pied Piper’s Voyage she imagines where they meet, the only living entity herself dressed in a replica suit, seen in many family photographs, weaving a fictitious narrative from cut out elements and flat pack characters from his imagined life. Kganye asks us to examine the traditional family unit and the role of women in homes with absent fathers.
