Tic Talk /tôk/
By: Philiswa Lila
Both installation and performance, Tic Talk /tôk/ emphasises text as not only a form of visual expression, but also as spoken art form. In artist Philiswa Lila’s words. ‘Seeable and sayable’. The boundaries of commonly held notions of ‘normal’ and disruptive/disturbing behaviours are investigated using syllables as ‘uninterrupted segments of speech consisting of vowel sounds’ to construct words and language while at the same time deconstructed to serve a particular meaning.
