We, the transposed
By: Darkroom Contemporary
We, the transposed finds novel ways of fusing sound and motion. A collaboration between Darkroom Contemporary’s Louise Coetzer and sound artist Misha Mathys, this installation work explores multiculturalism within Johannesburg, asking what it means to “be from” any given place. The sound installation attempts to reconstruct the divergent cultures as they come together to form the single cultural identity that is the City of Johannesburg. Various sampled sound events recorded within the Johannesburg CBD district - each portraying a different part of the City’s identity - form a sonic backdrop, while Darkroom Contemporary constructs movement dialogue in response to the contrapuntal sound composition.
The artwork's inclusion in the Infecting The City Festival 2017 is made possible through support from the Department of Arts & Culture.
