Matshelane Xhakaza
Matshelane Xhakaza (b. 1993) is a Johannesburg-based multi-disciplinary artist. A project-based conceptual practice Xhakaza works mainly with the moving image, text and installations. By negotiating through thought/research as practice she is currently investigating mapping, speculation and historical research as methods to discover novel modes for her practice. As such her practice is not only at times a convoluted response to engaging with particular social-political narratives but also invites the audience to make meaning of their own.
Xhakaza has a BA in Fine Arts (2015) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and is currently enrolled in a MA History of Art at the University of the Witwatersrand.
