Through the lens of Repair: a contemporary historical mapping of insurrection and repair in Cape Town
By: Repairs and Parts
This project is a poster-bombing, wheat-pasting, stenciling walk/march from the Willow Arts Collective in Obs to Bo Kaap, conducted mostly along Main Road and the train station side of the suburbs. This project aims to map out sites of insurrection and moments of uprising/change/revolution. The walk functions as a kind of cartography as well as a timeline to think through how the city has been bruised or changed or fractured or made more clear through these kinds of moments. Over the course of the walk, the Repairs and Parts Collective will narrate via politically engaged music as well as podcasts and audio mixes that embody messages of solidarity, city and world making, and resistance from an African and Black perspective and production. The walk culminates near the Company’s Garden in an empty lot with a screening of a visual mix complementing the audio mix, as well stenciling, graffiti, and postering the space.
