Carla Fonseca

Carla Fonseca is a multi-talented artist, actress, musician and director. Since graduating from the University of Cape Town in 2010, Fonseca has focused her work on South Africa's historical and current societal traumas. Fonseca has taken her work to various countries namely; South Africa, Burkina Faso, Lesotho, Mozambique, Uganda, China, South Korea, UK, USA, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Dubai, France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway,and Denmark. Fonseca is also part of the globally recognised music duo BATUK, alongside prolific artist Spoek Mathambo. They have released two albums and several collaboration tracks with international musicians. As well as music and theatre, Fonseca released her first full length dramatic feature film “Burkinabe”, which was shot in Burkina Faso. In the last decade,Fonseca has produced and directed gripping work, and has staged her theatre productions in treasured national theatres such as at The Market Theatre, The Soweto Theatre, The Magnet Theatre, Artscape and PopArt Theatre.
